What is Givebutter?

Givebutter is an all-in-one fundraising platform for student organizations, sports teams, companies, and nonprofits that offers the tools for collecting donations, running social peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, selling tickets to fundraising events, and more. The cloud-based platform provides three integrated products, Collect, Fundraise, and Event, which can be used individually or together within the Givebutter platform.

Givebutter’s fundraising platform is built on a self-service CRM dashboard to help small groups track and improve their fundraising efforts over time. Givebutter offers enterprise-grade features and support to nonprofits, chapter-based orgs, and various groups with a high-volume fundraising activity and aims to help them give donors, members, supporters, and advocates an easy way to give. With the Collect module, users can accept donations, both one-off and recurring, via debit card, credit card, and Venmo. A custom widget can be created and embedded into the business website to accept donations, and customstom donation amounts can be added to the widget to give donors options.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • User-Friendly InterfaceOne of the most frequently mentioned positives about Givebutter is its intuitive and easy-to-use interface. Many users, including those without technical backgrounds, appreciate how simple it is to set up fundraising campaigns, track donations, and manage events. This ease of use is precious for small organizations and individuals with limited resources or time.
  • Comprehensive Fundraising FeaturesGivebutter stands out with its wide range of fundraising options, including donation forms, peer-to-peer campaigns, auctions, and event ticketing. Users love the flexibility and variety of features catering to different fundraising needs. Many also highlight the integration with Venmo, PayPal, and other payment platforms, which makes it easy for donors to contribute.
  • Low Fees for NonprofitsUsers consistently praise Givebutter’s low transaction fees, mainly that donors can cover these fees, allowing nonprofits to maximize the funds they receive. This is a key differentiator from other fundraising platforms, where fees often eat into the funds raised.
  • Excellent Customer SupportSeveral reviewers highlight the responsiveness and helpfulness of Givebutter’s customer support team. Whether through live chat or email, the support team is noted for providing quick and practical assistance, which first-time users have particularly appreciated.
  • Customization and Branding OptionsGivebutter provides users with a lot of flexibility to customize their fundraising pages to match their organization’s branding. Users love the ability to add logos, colors, and personalized messages, which enhances their credibility and helps build trust with donors.

Cons

  • Limited CRM FeaturesWhile Givebutter provides a good suite of tools for managing donations and tracking supporter data, some users have pointed out that its built-in CRM functionality is somewhat limited compared to standalone CRM platforms. Users looking for more robust donor management tools often need to integrate with third-party platforms, which can add complexity.
  • Mobile App FunctionalityWhile the web version of Givebutter performs exceptionally well, some users have expressed frustration with the lack of a fully-featured mobile app. While the platform is mobile-responsive, a dedicated app with more functionality for managing campaigns on the go would be a welcomed improvement.
  • Customization Limitations on FormsA few users have mentioned that although customization is robust overall, the ability to customize donation forms is somewhat restricted. For example, specific fields or layout elements might not be fully adaptable, limiting the flexibility for users with particular needs.
  • Learning Curve for Advanced FeaturesWhile Givebutter is praised for being easy to use, some users mention that certain advanced features, like peer-to-peer fundraising and event ticketing, come with a learning curve. This can slow down the onboarding process for users new to these functionalities.
  • Limited Integration OptionsAlthough Givebutter integrates with popular payment processors like PayPal and Venmo, some users would like to see more integrations with other tools, such as accounting software or marketing automation platforms. Expanding the list of available integrations would help streamline organizations’ workflows.
